First Spooky Season Movie of the season

This movie was genuinely pretty scary – focused on sort of an evil spirit/religious oriented antagonist.

While it was scary and super entertaining (reason for the 3.77), the ending was just a ridiculous letdown for us and I think because of that it’s hard to give it a truly great score.

Anthony Bourdain Biopic

Been waiting on this one to come out for a while, and it was pretty good! Basically just a coming-of-age story about Anthony bOurdain and what let him down his culinary path.

I think the film did a good job of placing you in his shoes and conveying the desperation and insecurity that he felt during that time.

Resident Evil at Ada-Lowell 5

Went back to Ada-Lowell 5 for the first time in a few years to see the new Resident Evil movie and it was pretty good!

Felt like it was super-intertwined with the video game (never played) so I probably didn’t enjoy as much as someone who loves the game would, but I was still entertained the whole time. The filming was super interesting too because there were shots that felt like you were playing a first-person video game.

Overall, pretty good and the jump scares were insane at the theater. The monsters/zombies got insanely out-of-hand though, so not really as scary as I thought it might be, but was surprisingly funny throughout. All-around pretty entertaining!

Blackberry Movie

Abby went to a concert tonight with a friend so I finally had the time to watch this movie that I’ve had on my list for a long time.

I know it’s dramatized to make it a better story, but I feel like there’s lots of good lessons to glean from the story of Blackberry. Primarily:

  1. Arrogance can be both a reason for short term success and long term failure.
  2. Quality (or perceived quality) is worth taking the time for. sacrificing quality for speed is a losing battle.
  3. Trusting the people you do business with is probably the most important thing at the end of the day.

All in all, really good movie that I thought balances drama, comedy, and actually storytelling pretty well.

Little Brother Movie on Labor Day

Whole crew in Fort Collins was trying to beat the Sunday (actually Monday) scaries after the long weekend by watching a funny movie.

Was pretty funny (some absolutely wild scenes), but really just a feel good sort of movie.

D&D Movie on a Friday Night

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves2h 14m

This was a fine movie for a casual watch but honestly I feel like I would have appreciated it more if I knew more of the Dungeons & Dragons lore.

It does make me want to play some actual D&D though (probably the point of th movie?), the characters and places were super cool, kinda reminded me of Skyrim.

The Whisper Man

A thriller/drama more than a “scary” movie I’d say. Thought it was a generally good plot with some turns but was pretty dark.

Overall, for a casual “scary” movie watch this one is pretty good, just maybe had higher expectations based on the the Netflix prop
